Odisha School Holiday Today: Students, parents and teachers across Odisha are searching for the latest information about school closures on Monday, August 24, 2026, amid heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and flood concerns in several parts of the state.
The latest reports confirm that all government and private schools and Anganwadi centres in Nabarangpur district will remain closed today, August 24, 2026, following an order issued by the Nabarangpur district administration. In Bhadrak, 89 schools are also reported to remain closed today because of the weather situation.
However, this should not be interpreted as a statewide school holiday. School closure decisions during severe weather can be taken by individual district administrations depending on local conditions.
Odisha School Holiday Today – Are Schools Closed Across Odisha?
Odisha School Holiday Today: No statewide closure covering every school in Odisha has been confirmed in the latest reports reviewed for August 24.
Instead, school closures are being implemented in specific areas affected by heavy rainfall, flooding, waterlogging and hazardous weather conditions.
The most significant confirmed closure is in Nabarangpur district, where the administration ordered all Anganwadi centres and government-aided and private schools to remain closed on August 24.
Parents and students in other districts should therefore check announcements from their District Collector, District Education Officer and individual school before assuming that their school is closed.
Odisha School Holiday Today – Nabarangpur School Closure
Odisha School Holiday Today: Nabarangpur district has announced a complete closure of schools and Anganwadi centres for August 24.
According to reports on the district administration’s order, the decision applies to:
- Government schools
- Government-aided schools
- Private schools
- Anganwadi centres
The decision was taken because of continuous rainfall and forecasts of heavy to very heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning. The administration cited the safety and difficulty of travel for children as reasons for suspending educational activities.
Odisha School Holiday Today – Bhadrak School Closure
Odisha School Holiday Today: In Bhadrak district, reports indicate that 89 schools will remain closed on August 24 amid heavy rainfall and weather-related risks.
The situation in Bhadrak has been closely monitored because of continuing rain and flood concerns. Earlier in August, authorities had also ordered school closures in parts of the district when heavy rainfall and flooding affected local areas.
Students should follow the latest instructions issued by their school and local administration because closures can vary by block or institution.
Odisha School Holiday Today – Why Schools Are Closed
Odisha School Holiday Today: The primary reason for the latest school closures is adverse weather.
The current weather situation includes:
- Heavy to very heavy rainfall
- Thunderstorms
- Lightning
- Waterlogging
- Localised flooding
- Difficult road conditions
- Potential disruption to transportation
- Safety risks for students travelling to school
Reports citing the India Meteorological Department indicate that Odisha is experiencing significant monsoon activity, with heavy rainfall warnings affecting parts of the state.
Odisha School Holiday Today – IMD Rainfall Alert
Odisha School Holiday Today: The ongoing rainfall situation is connected to an active monsoon weather system affecting Odisha.
Recent reports have highlighted the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in parts of Odisha. These conditions can produce waterlogging, flash-flood risks, lightning and transportation problems.
Because weather conditions can change rapidly, students should not rely only on social-media posts regarding school holidays. Official district-level announcements should be given priority.
Odisha School Holiday Today – District-Wise Status
Odisha School Holiday Today: The currently reported school-closure situation can be summarised as follows:
Nabarangpur:
All government, government-aided and private schools and Anganwadi centres are reported closed on August 24.
Bhadrak:
89 schools are reported closed on August 24 because of heavy rainfall and related weather concerns.
Other Odisha districts:
A blanket statewide school holiday has not been confirmed by the latest reports reviewed for August 24. Students should check district-specific instructions and announcements from their schools.
Odisha School Holiday Today – Government and Private Schools
Odisha School Holiday Today: In Nabarangpur, the reported order covers both government and private schools, along with government-aided institutions and Anganwadi centres.
This is important because parents should not assume that only government schools are affected.
For districts without a specific closure order, private schools may continue operating according to their own instructions unless the local administration announces otherwise.
Odisha School Holiday Today – Are Colleges Also Closed?
Odisha School Holiday Today: The latest reports specifically refer to schools and Anganwadi centres in the affected areas.
Students attending colleges, universities, coaching centres or other higher-education institutions should not automatically assume that the school closure order applies to them.
They should check the institution’s official notice or the relevant district administration before making travel arrangements.
Odisha School Holiday Today – What Students Should Do
Odisha School Holiday Today: Students living in affected districts should prioritise safety and follow official instructions.
If your school has been officially closed:
- Do not travel to school unnecessarily.
- Follow announcements from your school.
- Avoid flooded roads and waterlogged areas.
- Stay away from exposed locations during thunderstorms.
- Follow official weather warnings.
- Complete assignments or online learning activities if your school provides them.
- Check for updates before returning to school.
Odisha School Holiday Today – What Parents Should Know
Odisha School Holiday Today: Parents should verify the closure status before sending children to school.
This is particularly important during heavy rainfall because road conditions can change quickly. A school may also issue a separate notice even when there is no statewide holiday.
Parents should check:
- School WhatsApp/SMS notifications
- School website
- District administration announcements
- District Education Office updates
- Local authority announcements
- Official school social-media channels
Odisha School Holiday Today – Will Schools Reopen Tomorrow?
Odisha School Holiday Today: Whether schools reopen on Tuesday, August 25, 2026 will depend on local weather conditions and any further orders issued by the concerned district administrations.
The August 24 closure should therefore not automatically be treated as a multi-day holiday.
Students and parents should wait for an official announcement if severe rainfall continues.
Odisha School Holiday Today – Nabarangpur Weather Situation
Odisha School Holiday Today: Nabarangpur has experienced significant rainfall and waterlogging concerns.
Reports published before the August 24 closure described heavy rainfall in parts of the district and difficult road conditions. The administration’s decision was made with children’s safety in mind.
The situation demonstrates why district administrations can announce emergency school closures even when the regular academic calendar does not contain a holiday.
Odisha School Holiday Today – Regular Holiday or Emergency Closure?
Odisha School Holiday Today: The August 24 closures should be understood as weather-related emergency closures, not necessarily as a regular holiday from Odisha’s annual holiday calendar.
Odisha’s Revenue and Disaster Management Department separately publishes the state’s regular holiday information.
Weather-related school closures can be announced separately by district authorities when conditions create risks for students and staff.
Odisha School Holiday Today – Important Safety Advisory
Odisha School Holiday Today: During thunderstorms and lightning, students should avoid open fields, isolated trees, water bodies and other exposed locations.
If roads are flooded, do not attempt to cross fast-moving water. Parents should also avoid sending children through severely waterlogged routes even if a school has not yet issued a closure notice.
For emergency weather situations, always follow instructions issued by local authorities.
