The iPhone 17 Pro remains one of Apple’s most powerful Pro smartphones, but there has been an important development in September 2026. Following the launch of the iPhone 18 Pro series, Apple has officially moved the iPhone 17 Pro out of its main current Pro lineup. The model may still be available through selected third-party retailers while stocks last.
Originally launched in September 2025, the iPhone 17 Pro introduced Apple’s A19 Pro chip, a redesigned aluminium unibody, a vapor-chamber cooling system, three 48MP rear cameras and an 18MP Center Stage front camera.
For buyers looking for a powerful iPhone at potentially reduced retailer prices, the iPhone 17 Pro is now particularly interesting because it is a previous-generation Pro model.
iPhone 17 Pro Latest News in September 2026
The biggest recent development is that Apple has discontinued the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max from its official online lineup following the introduction of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.
This means Apple is no longer positioning the iPhone 17 Pro as its current flagship Pro smartphone. However, remaining inventory can still appear through authorised or major third-party retailers.
The change is significant because consumers might previously have expected the older Pro model to receive a major official price reduction. Instead, availability is increasingly dependent on remaining stock and retailer pricing.
iPhone 17 Pro Current Price in India
The original official India starting price of the iPhone 17 Pro was ₹1,34,900 for the 256GB model. Apple originally offered the phone in 256GB, 512GB and 1TB storage configurations.
Current third-party market listings show the 256GB model around ₹1,34,900, with some listings also showing approximately ₹1,52,900 for 512GB and ₹1,72,900 for 1TB. Actual retailer prices can change depending on stock, offers, bank discounts and colour availability.
| iPhone 17 Pro Storage | India Price |
|---|---|
| 256GB | Around ₹1,34,900 |
| 512GB | Around ₹1,52,900 |
| 1TB | Around ₹1,72,900 |
Important: These should be treated as indicative market prices rather than a guaranteed Apple Store price because the model has been removed from Apple’s current main lineup.
iPhone 17 Pro Discontinued Status in 2026
The iPhone 17 Pro has now been discontinued from Apple’s official online store after the arrival of the iPhone 18 Pro generation. Apple typically retires previous-generation Pro models when their successors arrive, and the same pattern has occurred with the iPhone 17 Pro.
The phone may continue to appear at retailers while existing inventory remains. Once retailer stock is exhausted, finding a new sealed iPhone 17 Pro could become more difficult.
This also means consumers should carefully check the seller, warranty, invoice and device condition before purchasing.
iPhone 17 Pro Design and Build
The iPhone 17 Pro introduced a redesigned aluminium unibody construction instead of the titanium design used by the previous generation.
Apple used aerospace-grade 7000-series aluminium and integrated an Apple-designed vapor chamber into the internal architecture to improve thermal management during sustained workloads.
The phone has a 6.3-inch display and weighs approximately 204 grams according to Apple’s India technical specifications.
The available finishes are:
- Cosmic Orange
- Deep Blue
- Silver
The iPhone 17 Pro also features Ceramic Shield 2 on the front and Ceramic Shield protection on the back.
iPhone 17 Pro Display Specifications
The iPhone 17 Pro features a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with a 2622 × 1206 resolution and 460 pixels per inch.
The display supports:
- ProMotion technology
- Adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz
- Always-On display
- Dynamic Island
- HDR
- True Tone
- P3 wide colour
- Up to 3000 nits outdoor peak brightness
- Anti-reflective coating
The 120Hz ProMotion system makes scrolling, gaming and animations considerably smoother than conventional 60Hz displays.
iPhone 17 Pro A19 Pro Chip Performance
The iPhone 17 Pro is powered by Apple’s A19 Pro chip.
Apple’s specifications list a 6-core CPU, 6-core GPU with Neural Accelerators and a 16-core Neural Engine. Hardware-accelerated ray tracing is also supported.
The A19 Pro is designed for demanding workloads such as:
- High-end gaming
- Video editing
- Photography
- AI-powered applications
- Multitasking
- Professional content creation
The integrated vapor-chamber thermal system is particularly important for sustained performance during intensive tasks.
iPhone 17 Pro Camera Specifications
The camera system is one of the biggest strengths of the iPhone 17 Pro.
Apple equipped the phone with a 48MP Pro Fusion camera system consisting of:
- 48MP Fusion Main camera
- 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera
- 48MP Fusion Telephoto camera
The telephoto camera provides 4x optical zoom and supports up to 8x optical-quality zoom. Digital zoom can reach up to 40x.
The camera system also supports features including:
- ProRAW
- 48MP photography
- 48MP macro photography
- Night mode
- Smart HDR
- Photographic Styles
- Portrait photography
- Spatial photos
- Advanced stabilisation
iPhone 17 Pro Video Recording Features
The iPhone 17 Pro is particularly aimed at professional video creators.
Apple introduced several advanced video capabilities, including:
- ProRes RAW
- Apple Log 2
- Genlock
- Dolby Vision
- 4K video recording
- 4K Dolby Vision up to 120fps
- Advanced stabilisation
- Dual Capture
These features make the iPhone 17 Pro suitable for creators who want to shoot and edit professional-looking video using a smartphone.
iPhone 17 Pro Front Camera Features
The iPhone 17 Pro features an 18MP Center Stage front camera.
Center Stage can automatically keep people positioned appropriately within the frame during supported photography and video-calling scenarios.
Apple also introduced features designed for creators and video calls, including improved framing and Dual Capture capabilities.
iPhone 17 Pro Battery and Charging
Battery life was another major focus of the iPhone 17 Pro.
Apple states that the iPhone 17 Pro can provide up to 37 hours of video playback.
The phone supports:
- USB-C charging
- MagSafe wireless charging
- Qi2 wireless charging
- Fast charging
- USB 3 data transfer
The USB-C connection can support USB 3 speeds of up to 10Gbps according to Apple’s technical specifications.
iPhone 17 Pro Storage Options
The iPhone 17 Pro was launched with three storage configurations:
| Storage | Availability |
|---|---|
| 256GB | Yes |
| 512GB | Yes |
| 1TB | Yes |
Unlike the iPhone 17 Pro Max, the iPhone 17 Pro did not receive a 2TB storage option.
iPhone 17 Pro Connectivity and Security
The iPhone 17 Pro supports modern connectivity technologies including 5G, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.
It also includes:
- Face ID
- LiDAR Scanner
- NFC
- GPS
- NavIC
- Ultra Wideband
- USB-C
- Dual eSIM support
Apple’s technical specifications indicate that the iPhone 17 Pro models use eSIM technology and do not support physical SIM cards in the specified configuration.
iPhone 17 Pro Water and Dust Resistance
The iPhone 17 Pro carries an IP68 rating for splash, water and dust resistance under IEC 60529.
Apple specifies resistance at a maximum depth of 6 metres for up to 30 minutes under laboratory conditions.
Water resistance can decrease with normal wear, so users should not intentionally expose the device to liquids.
iPhone 17 Pro Apple Intelligence Features
The iPhone 17 Pro supports Apple Intelligence and Apple’s AI-powered software features.
The A19 Pro processor and Neural Engine provide the hardware foundation for supported AI workloads.
Feature availability can depend on the operating system version, language and region, so users should check Apple’s current software documentation before assuming that every AI feature is available on their device.
iPhone 17 Pro iOS Software
The iPhone 17 Pro originally launched with iOS 26. Apple has subsequently continued providing software updates for the device.
Because the iPhone 17 Pro remains a relatively recent model, its software-support life is expected to extend for several years, although Apple does not guarantee a specific number of future iOS releases.
iPhone 17 Pro vs iPhone 17
The iPhone 17 Pro is designed as the more advanced model compared with the standard iPhone 17.
| Feature | iPhone 17 Pro | iPhone 17 |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | A19 Pro | A19 |
| Display | 6.3-inch ProMotion | 6.3-inch ProMotion |
| Rear cameras | Triple 48MP Pro Fusion | Dual Fusion |
| Telephoto | Yes | No dedicated telephoto |
| Pro video | Advanced Pro features | More limited |
| LiDAR | Yes | No |
| Storage | Up to 1TB | Up to 512GB |
| Build | Aluminium unibody | Aluminium design |
| Target user | Pro users/creators | General users |
The iPhone 17 Pro is therefore more suitable for photographers, videographers, gamers and professionals who need advanced camera and performance features.
iPhone 17 Pro vs iPhone 18 Pro
The iPhone 18 Pro is now Apple’s newer Pro-generation smartphone, so buyers considering the iPhone 17 Pro should compare the two before purchasing.
The newer generation introduces updated hardware and features, while the iPhone 17 Pro can potentially appeal to buyers who find remaining stock at a substantially lower retailer price.
The main question is therefore whether the discount on an iPhone 17 Pro is large enough to justify choosing the previous generation.
iPhone 17 Pro Latest Price and Availability News
The current market situation is unusual because Apple has discontinued the iPhone 17 Pro, but some third-party sellers may still have inventory.
Potential buyers should check:
- Seller reputation
- Apple warranty status
- Product invoice
- Storage capacity
- Colour
- Return policy
- Sealed-box condition
- Final price after bank offers
Retail prices can change quickly as remaining inventory decreases.
iPhone 17 Pro Is It Still Worth Buying in 2026
The iPhone 17 Pro can still be an attractive smartphone in 2026 because its hardware remains powerful.
It offers an A19 Pro processor, a triple 48MP camera system, a 120Hz ProMotion display, advanced video recording and a premium build.
However, buyers should consider the newer iPhone 18 Pro before purchasing.
The iPhone 17 Pro makes the most sense when:
- A genuine discount is available
- You prefer its design or colours
- You need its Pro camera system
- You find a reliable seller
- You do not need the newest-generation features
If the price difference between the iPhone 17 Pro and the newer model is small, buying the newer generation may provide better long-term value.
